Carolina’s first Week 6 report was an estimate, but all three players with open return windows were listed as full participants before the trip to Philadelphia.

The Carolina Panthers listed rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling (knee) and running back AJ Dillon (ankle) as not participating on their first injury report of Week 6, the club announced Wednesday. The Panthers did not practice Wednesday, so the report was an estimate that also reflected Tuesday’s work, Darin Gantt reported.

Who was limited and who was full

Four players were listed as limited: left guard Damien Lewis (elbow), outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (hamstring) and tight ends Tommy Tremble (ribs) and Darren Waller (toe).

Six players got full credit, and all of them were on the field Tuesday. That group includes the three players whose return windows opened this week, right tackle Taylor Moton (lungs, blood clot), defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton (neck) and running back Trevor Etienne (ankle), plus receiver Jalen Coker (quadriceps), linebacker Thomas Incoom (ribs) and quarterback Bryce Young (knee).

Moton’s road back

Tuesday was Moton’s first practice since he went on the non-football illness list in the summer. His ordeal began in late June, when he started coughing up blood after returning from his youth camp in Michigan. Scans at two hospitals found what he called “a multitude of clots in my right lung.” He spent three months on blood thinners with no football contact.

“It was scary. You start coughing up blood, you start thinking the worst,” Moton said Tuesday. “But thank God I’m still on this side of the Earth, right?” He said doctors told him the chance of further complications is “relatively low.” Head coach Dave Canales had him break down the team after practice.

Why Freeling’s knee matters

Freeling hurt his knee in the win over the Detroit Lions before the bye and worked on the side Tuesday. If he cannot go, Moton is the obvious option at right tackle. Moton left that decision to the coaching staff but said he is practicing as if he will face the Eagles on Sunday. Carolina has three weeks to activate Moton, Wharton and Etienne; Canales said Monday that Etienne was ready to be activated.

The Panthers return to a normal practice and an actual participation report on Thursday.

The why matters.
