Las Vegas now has three weeks to activate Runyon, who has been on injured reserve since late August, or keep him on the list.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Carter Runyon returned to practice on Wednesday, the club announced, his first time on the field since the start of training camp. His return opens a 21-day period in which the Raiders must either activate him to the 53-man roster or keep him on injured reserve.

A long wait since camp

Runyon was placed on injured reserve on August 30 after an injury in training camp and did not play in the preseason. He was mainly a special-teams contributor in 2025, so his return is first about depth and kicking-game snaps behind Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer.

What comes next

Runyon follows receiver Dont’e Thornton Jr., whose practice window the Raiders opened earlier this month. Las Vegas hosts the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and the club has not said whether Runyon will be activated in time for that game.

The why matters.
