The Miami Dolphins claimed wide receiver Jared Wayne off waivers from the Houston Texans on Tuesday, waived Ryan Miller to clear the spot, signed defensive lineman Jordan Jefferson to the practice squad and released Mazi Smith from the practice squad, the club announced.
Wayne fills a thin receiver room
Wayne, 26, is a 6-foot-3 Canadian out of Peterborough, Ontario, who went undrafted in 2023 after a Pitt career that finished with 146 catches for 2,308 yards and 13 touchdowns. He dressed for all five of Houston’s games this season and had four receptions for 65 yards on 12 targets before the Texans waived him after acquiring Marvin Harrison Jr.
Miller, claimed off waivers from the Giants in August, had been a special-teams regular and caught Malik Willis’s first touchdown pass in Miami. Cutting him leaves Malik Washington, Chris Bell, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Jalen Tolbert as the healthy receivers on the 53 who already know the playbook, with Caleb Douglas still working back from an ankle injury.
Practice-squad shuffle
Jefferson’s practice-squad signing covers interior defensive-line depth after Smith was released. Miami also re-signed quarterback Brady Cook to the practice squad and released running back Jarquez Hunter in a separate Tuesday move.
The Dolphins are 0-5 and on their bye this week before a road game at the New York Jets on October 25. The WhyNFL Dolphins hub tracks how the receiver depth chart settles once Douglas returns to full practice.
