Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Roman Wilson is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with the finger injury he suffered in Sunday’s 34-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Jeremy Fowler reported Monday morning.
The setback hits a receiving corps that was already short. The Steelers placed Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve with a foot injury on Saturday, and Ben Skowronek left Sunday’s game with a calf injury. Pittsburgh is 3-2 and heads to Tampa Bay this weekend with its wide receiver depth chart thinning by the week.
According to Fowler, Wilson is still collecting information on the injury and plans to get a second opinion, so the timeline could change. The Steelers have not announced a diagnosis or a roster move, and the length of the absence has not been confirmed by the club. The first official word should come with the team’s injury report later in the week.

What it means for Pittsburgh’s passing game
The Steelers ruled Wilson out during Sunday’s game at Acrisure Stadium, and Skowronek was ruled out at the same time, leaving Aaron Rodgers with a short group of targets for the rest of the afternoon. Pittsburgh still won comfortably. Running back Jaylen Warren caught six passes for 87 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown, Germie Bernard caught six for 80 yards on nine targets, and tight end Pat Freiermuth caught two touchdown passes.
Those are the players who carried the passing game once Wilson went out. Bernard led the receivers in targets, and Freiermuth and Darnell Washington combined for seven catches at tight end. Pittman cannot return from injured reserve for at least four games, and the club has not reported any receiver signing or practice-squad elevation for the trip to Tampa Bay.
Wilson, a third-round pick in 2024, had his rookie season slowed by an ankle sprain in training camp and a hamstring problem, and the finger injury is the latest interruption for a player who has had trouble staying on the field. Track Pittsburgh’s designations on the injury report and any roster moves on the transactions page.
What comes next
The Steelers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
