The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 32-29 on Sunday at Lumen Field, taking the lead on Eddy Pineiro’s 44-yard field goal with under two minutes left and then holding when Cooper Kupp was ruled short of a first down on Seattle’s final fourth-and-10.
San Francisco is unbeaten through five games for the first time since its 2023 Super Bowl season, and the victory gives it a measure of payback against the defending champions, who beat the 49ers 13-3 in last season’s regular-season finale and 41-6 in the divisional round in January. Seattle fell to 3-2, two games behind its rival in the NFC West.

How it was decided
Seattle drew level at 29 with 6:55 left on Jason Myers’ fifth field goal of the day, a 40-yarder that came after Keion White sacked Sam Darnold on third-and-5. The 49ers answered by leaning on running back Kaelon Black, whose 11-yard run moved them into Seahawks territory, and Pineiro made the kick that decided it. He had missed from 52 yards in the third quarter.
Darnold had one more chance. A 35-yard completion to Jaxon Smith-Njigba got the Seahawks moving, but the drive bogged down near midfield, still outside field-goal range. On fourth-and-10, Darnold found Kupp along the sideline for nine yards. Kupp spun and lunged for the marker, officials spotted him short, and a replay review left the call in place.
Seven turnovers
Neither team could hold onto the ball. Renardo Green intercepted Darnold on Seattle’s first series and again on the second play of the third quarter. The first pick set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Mike Evans. Fred Warner punched the ball from Emanuel Wilson at the Seattle 9, and Christian McCaffrey scored from 11 yards on the next snap.
The strangest score came 13 seconds before halftime. Siran Neal downed a punt at the Seattle 4, and rookie defensive tackle Gracen Halton stripped George Holani in the end zone and fell on the ball for a touchdown and a 21-13 lead. Halton also had his first career sack, and according to Nick Wagoner, he is only the second 49ers rookie since 1982 with a sack and a touchdown in the same game.
Seattle got its own gifts. Jacob Cowing muffed a punt that led to Wilson’s 2-yard touchdown run, Nehemiah Pritchett picked off Purdy for his first interception since Week 1, and Darnold hit Smith-Njigba for a 16-yard score that put the Seahawks ahead 23-21. Deebo Samuel then fumbled at his own 35 and left with a right hamstring injury, and Myers’ 48-yarder made it 26-21. Purdy responded with a 12-play, 74-yard drive that ate exactly seven minutes, finishing with a 7-yard touchdown to Brandin Cooks and a two-point catch by Evans.
Renardo Green sure knows how to start a half.
