The Seattle Seahawks placed rookie running back Jadarian Price on injured reserve on October 3, 2026, extending his absence beyond the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Seattle signed Velus Jones Jr. from its practice squad to fill the opening on the 53-man roster.
Price must miss at least four games before he becomes eligible to return. The transaction creates a longer interruption to his first NFL season after he had already been ruled out for the Chargers matchup with a chest injury.
Practice setback changed Price’s outlook
The injury began during Seattle’s Week 2 win at Arizona. Price recovered enough to play against Washington in Week 3, but aggravated the problem during a limited practice on Wednesday, September 30. He then missed Thursday’s and Friday’s practices.
Coach Mike Macdonald had not established a recovery timetable when discussing the injury on Friday. Saturday’s move supplies a minimum absence, while the date Price will be healthy enough to play remains unsettled. Eligibility to return after four missed games is a separate question from medical readiness.
Jones joins a backfield waiting on Charbonnet
Jones had already received practice-squad elevations for the season opener against New England and the Week 3 trip to Washington. This move gives him a place on the active roster as Seattle works around another absence at running back.
George Holani and Emanuel Wilson were positioned to carry the ground-game workload against the Chargers. Zach Charbonnet returned to practice on October 1 after opening the season on the physically unable to perform list following a torn ACL in the previous postseason.
Charbonnet was still ineligible for Week 4, with Week 5 his earliest possible return to game action. Macdonald stopped short of promising he would play that week, leaving Seattle to manage the position around both players’ recoveries.
A pause for Seattle’s first-round investment
Seattle selected Price 32nd overall after he rushed for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns on 113 carries in his final Notre Dame season. He also scored twice as a receiver and twice on kickoff returns that year, bringing a varied scoring background to the Seahawks.
Seattle’s October 3 transactions also included practice-squad elevations for cornerback Trevon Diggs and safety Maxen Hook. Jones’ signing, however, directly addresses the roster vacancy created by Price’s injury.
