The Baltimore Ravens activated rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane from injured reserve on Wednesday, and he was a full participant in his first practice since a wrist injury in the season opener at Indianapolis, the club announced. Lane had missed the past four games.
The roster spot came from a move a day earlier. On Tuesday, Baltimore waived veteran receiver Chris Moore and released receiver Xavier Guillory from the practice squad. Moore is a vested veteran, so he does not go through waivers, and Jeff Zrebiec reported that the plan is for him to re-sign to the practice squad and stay in Baltimore. Guillory’s exit leaves room for that.
Minter on Lane
“Man, you just feel the guy’s energy,” head coach Jesse Minter said Wednesday. “He’s done a great job. I mentioned this last week — guys, when they’re dealing with things, are they able to keep up a level of conditioning and a level of work so that when they do open that window, they’re actually able to play football and make it through a practice? He’s done a great job in that regard.”
Lane was the star of training camp and the preseason before the wrist injury. A full practice on day one is a strong sign for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Hendrickson and Jurgens back on the field
Outside linebacker Trey Hendrickson also returned as a full participant. He has missed the past two games after a procedure on his finger. He spent five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and has seven career sacks in eight games against the Browns.
Center Cam Jurgens, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles last week while he was still in the concussion protocol, made his Ravens practice debut in a red non-contact jersey. Minter said practicing is one step toward clearing the protocol. “He has put himself in a really good position,” Minter said. “The medical side will really determine his availability, but he’s done an amazing job mentally to really learn everything and be ready to roll.”
Jackson still not practicing
Quarterback Lamar Jackson did not practice and has not practiced since injuring his ankle at the end of the first half against the Tennessee Titans on October 4. Minter called his status “definitely day-to-day.” Tyler Huntley would make a second straight start if Jackson cannot go.
Baltimore listed 19 players on Wednesday’s report. Jackson, rookie tight end Matt Hibner (hand) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell, on a rest day, were the only players who did not practice. Receiver Rashod Bateman (shoulder) was limited, though Minter expects him to be “good to go.”
Moore had three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in four games this season, including a 4-yard score from Jackson in the Week 3 win in Rio de Janeiro. The Ravens visit the Browns on Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
