Brandon Cisse finished Sunday night in the medical tent rather than on the field. The Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback left the 23-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth quarter with what the club called a stinger, and he was listed as questionable to return.
The timing is awkward for a secondary already stretched thin. Green Bay is 4-2 after a third straight victory and its next stop is a division game in Detroit, where a short-handed cornerback room would face a test.
How it happened
Cisse got hurt with roughly eight minutes to play, after he brought down George Pickens. He walked toward the sideline clutching his right arm and shoulder and went straight into the blue tent. Carrington Valentine took his place for the rest of the game. The Packers announced the stinger diagnosis shortly afterward and offered nothing further before the night ended, so there is no word yet on further tests or on how much practice time he may lose.

It cut short what had been his best night as a pro. In the second quarter, with Green Bay building the 17-0 halftime lead, Cisse jumped a Dak Prescott throw for an interception.
did you CISSE that?!

He was not even a sure thing to play. Cisse was added to the injury report during the week with a hip problem, sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday, was limited on Friday and went into the weekend as questionable before being cleared to dress. It is also his second in-game scare this month: on Sunday, October 4, he left with a neck injury and was checked for a concussion.
A thin cornerback group
The Packers played Dallas without Benjamin St-Juste, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury after missing every practice. Keisean Nixon played through a groin injury that had kept him out of Wednesday’s session. Valentine was the man who stepped in when Cisse went down on Sunday night.
The defensive front is in worse shape. Javon Hargrave’s Achilles injury has ended his season, Jonathan Ford missed the game with a calf injury and Jordon Riley was doubtful with an Achilles problem. Matt LaFleur conceded before the game that the losses do not help, even with a plan in place. On Sunday the unit still held Dallas scoreless for the first half and to 13 points overall.
What comes next
The first sign of Cisse’s status will come when the Packers return to practice midweek, with the opening injury report due Wednesday. Green Bay plays at the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 25, at 4:25 p.m. EDT. Dallas, now 2-4, visits the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, October 26.
