The Bills quarterback also became the first QB to score a rushing touchdown in each of his team's first five games. Here are the numbers after Week 5.

Josh Allen is scoring on the ground at a pace the NFL has not seen in two decades.

The Week 5 spike

Allen’s eighth rushing score came on a 1-yard run in Buffalo’s 37–34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams. He finished that night with 121 rushing yards on 10 carries and added 210 passing yards with a touchdown through the air, per game totals. Field Yates noted 88 scramble yards in the contest, Allen’s most in a game since his 2018 rookie season.

The Bills improved to 4–1 and sit as the AFC East leaders on the current playoff picture. Their next game is at the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6.

How rare the start is

Eight rushing touchdowns in five games is not just a quarterback outlier. The last player cited at that five-week level was Shaun Alexander in 2005, when he finished with 27 rushing touchdowns for Seattle.

Allen has 239 rushing yards on 43 carries with those eight scores. He also has 1,249 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns through five games.

Where the standings sit

Buffalo is one of four AFC clubs at 4–1, alongside Baltimore and Jacksonville, with Kansas City alone at 4–0. San Francisco and Minnesota remain the only 5–0 teams. The why matters.
