CeeDee Lamb did not hide how he felt about Philadelphia. Asked after the Dallas Cowboys’ 38-21 win over the Eagles on Monday night why he had felt “on one” before the game, the receiver said: “First of all, I hate Philly. That’s for one. Eagles suck. You heard the fans.”
Lamb said it in a postgame TV interview with Scott Van Pelt on a set on the field at Lincoln Financial Field. He caught five of the 12 passes thrown his way for 74 yards and two touchdowns. The first, a 9-yarder from Dak Prescott on third-and-2, gave Dallas a 10-7 lead in the first quarter. The second came after the Eagles had gone ahead 21-20 in the third: Prescott found Lamb for 16 yards in the left corner of the end zone with 1:30 left in the quarter, then ran in the two-point conversion for a 28-21 lead.
“I hate losing more than I like winning”
Lamb said the rivalry was only part of it. “Overall, it was just, I don’t like losing. I don’t do well with losing,” he said. “I hate losing more than I like winning.” He said losses make him want to be “a better player, be a better brother and overall a better man just for my guys, because I know how much work we put in each and every week.”
Dallas came in at 2-4 after losses to Tampa Bay and Green Bay. Lamb said the team “shouldn’t have to” lose two games “for us to come out here and be dominant.” He said the run game changed what Philadelphia could do on defense. “With us getting the run game started, they had no choice but to respect it, and then that’s when I got my opportunities,” he said. “Now we’re not facing two safeties up top. We’re playing our game, and I feel like we played at our pace tonight.”
He also said he enjoys the trip. “Number one, I love playing here,” Lamb said. “You always want to beat a brother.” He said NFC East games are “very much more physical” and that the New York Giants, who lead the division, are the team Dallas is chasing. “It may look a little easier in this division,” he said, “but you come around here, you’ll see.”
“There’s not a person in this league that can stop us”
In the locker room, Lamb pointed to the balance. Dallas ran for 204 yards and threw for 212. “I looked up at the scoreboard and I saw we had 200 on the ground and 200 passing yards,” he said. “Made it easy for us. Everything was just flowing.” Asked whether he could feel defenses having to respect the run, he said: “The box is stacked and it’s like, oh, it’s just you and me out here. I think we like that.”
He gave credit to Javonte Williams, who ran for 155 yards, and to the offensive line. “Watching ’Te break, that’s a great sight to see as a receiver,” Lamb said. “They don’t get as much kudos as they should, but them guys, they held it down today.”
Asked what the offense can be, he said: “I think that’s pretty self-explanatory, to be honest. Once we get going, I don’t think there’s, nah, I know for a fact there’s not a person in this league that can stop us.” And asked what statement the team had made after a week of criticism, he answered with one word, then one line: “Nothing. We’ll see y’all again on Sunday.”
Lamb began the night with 7,993 receiving yards for Dallas, third in franchise history, so his 74 yards took him past 8,000. The Cowboys, now 3-4, host the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. ET, which is 8:00 p.m. in Cairo.
