The Arizona Cardinals will be without rookie running back Jeremiyah Love for a second consecutive week when they host the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Love (ankle) did not practice on any day this week and is one of four Cardinals ruled out, along with defensive lineman Walter Nolen III (ankle), safety Andrew Wingard (knee) and right guard Jon Gaines II (knee and ankle).

Four more players are questionable for the 2-4 Cardinals: safety Budda Baker (groin and illness), quarterback Carson Beck (back), cornerback Max Melton (knee) and defensive lineman Darius Robinson (back).

The backfield without Love

Mike LaFleur confirmed that Love will rest again and said the decision has nothing to do with how the running game looked without him. Arizona ran for a season-high 120 yards in last week’s win over the Los Angeles Rams, with Bam Knight gaining 80 yards on 15 carries and Tyler Allgeier adding 38 on 18. Asked about Love’s timeline, LaFleur kept it general: “Each situation is its own.”

Knight and Allgeier will share the work again, and the club added depth on Saturday by promoting Evan Hull from the practice squad to the active roster.

Line and defense

Gaines was hurt in Thursday’s practice and sat out Friday. He is the third guard Arizona has lost, after Chase Bisontis and Isaiah Adams went on injured reserve, so Hayden Conner is set to start at right guard. Offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun was elevated for the game.

Nolen’s absence moves more snaps to Robinson, who has averaged 22.2 per game, but Robinson is himself questionable with a back injury after two limited practices. LaFleur does not expect Nolen’s injury to require injured reserve. Defensive lineman Jared Harrison-Hunte was also elevated.

Baker missed Wednesday and Thursday before a limited session on Friday. Melton was limited on Wednesday and then sat out the last two days. Beck, the rookie behind starter Jacoby Brissett, was limited on Wednesday before missing Thursday and Friday with a back injury.

There was better news elsewhere: cornerback Garrett Williams (knee) finished the week with a full practice and carries no designation, as does tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., who was back from an illness by Thursday.

Denver’s list

The Broncos have ruled out safety Talanoa Hufanga, outside linebacker Jonah Elliss and running back Tyler Badie. Cornerback Pat Surtain II is questionable after three limited practices with his ankle injury, and running back Jonah Coleman, a full participant all week, was activated from injured reserve on Saturday. Receiver Jaylen Waddle was a full participant on Friday and has no status. Every club’s designations are on our injury report page.

What comes next

The Cardinals host the Broncos at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, October 25, at 4:05 p.m. EDT, with inactive lists due 90 minutes before kickoff. Follow the game on the Game Center. Arizona then visits the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. EST.
