Denver listed cornerback Pat Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga as non-participants with ankle injuries on its first estimated report of a short week, putting two starters in the secondary in doubt for Thursday night’s home game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Neither team held a practice on Monday, three days before kickoff, so both clubs filed estimates of what their players could have done. Those estimates still offer the first look at who is trending toward the field. For the Broncos, the answer in the back end is unclear: Surtain has not played since he hurt his ankle in the Week 4 loss to San Francisco, and Hufanga left Sunday’s 23-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers with an ankle problem of his own.

There was better news on the other side of the field. Riley Moss, the other starting cornerback, was estimated as limited with a rib injury after sitting out the Chargers game. Defensive end Sai’vion Jones (shoulder) was also limited, while safety Brandon Jones (foot) and guard Ben Powers (biceps) were full participants.
Without Surtain and Moss against the Chargers, Denver leaned on Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine at cornerback, the same pairing it used against the 49ers. If Hufanga cannot go either, the Broncos would be missing three of their regular defensive backs against a Seattle offense that scored 29 points in its last outing.
Seattle’s list
The Seahawks estimated Jaxon Smith-Njigba as limited with an ankle injury. Seattle’s top receiver had his ankle heavily taped during the first half of Sunday’s 32-29 loss to the 49ers but stayed in the game and went on to catch five passes for 102 yards, one of them a 16-yard score.
Running back Zach Charbonnet (knee), backup quarterback Drew Lock (right forearm), guard Beau Stephens (shoulder) and defensive tackle Leonard Williams (ankle) were also listed as limited. Linebackers Chazz Surratt (calf) and Drake Thomas (ankle) were the two Seahawks estimated as non-participants. Receiver Irv Charles (knee) and running back George Holani (ribs, knee) were full participants.
Where both teams stand
Both clubs are 3-2. Denver bounced back from its Week 4 loss to San Francisco by beating the Chargers, while Seattle is coming off a narrow divisional loss that kept the 49ers unbeaten. The Broncos will issue another practice report on Tuesday and game designations on Wednesday. Every listing is tracked on our injuries page.
What comes next
