Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen spoke after a rain-soaked 33-10 win at the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football, Jacksonville’s first Thursday night victory in three seasons and a result that stretched the AFC South lead. Coen framed the night as a “businesslike” performance built on the short week. “I was extremely proud of their process throughout the week that led us to this point,” he said, and of how the Jaguars handled the steady rain: “I thought they handled it well for the most part.”
The Jaguars are 6-2. They have allowed 10 or fewer points in four of eight games this season, and 17 points across the two games since their Week 7 bye.
Defense and Lawrence
Jacksonville forced three turnovers and held Baltimore to 10 points for a second straight game. “Very pleased with the way the defense played today,” Coen said. On Trevor Lawrence, who finished 16-of-26 for 242 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, Coen said the timing matched the scoreboard. “He was very on when it was really a game,” Coen said. “He was extremely sharp, accurate and played a really solid football game.”
Weather, the opening drive and the half
The Jaguars took the opening kickoff — something Coen said they do not usually do — because of the forecast. “We don’t typically take the ball much and we took the ball because of the weather, knowing it was going to come a little heavier in the second half, we wanted to steal an early-drive possession,” he said. Bhayshul Tuten’s short touchdown run capped that first series for a 7-0 lead, which Coen called a “great start.” Late in the half, Lawrence’s 50-yard touchdown to Parker Washington made it 17-3. “Huge,” Coen said of that score. “To go up 17-3 at the half I thought was really critical.”
