The winless Miami Dolphins will be without defensive back Reese Taylor at MetLife Stadium on Sunday and are unlikely to have edge rusher Rob Beal Jr., but the rest of their injury list is close to clean for the AFC East opener against the New York Jets. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. is the only player marked questionable.

For a club that comes out of its bye at 0-5, the timing helps. Ten other Dolphins appeared on the week’s report and none carries a game designation, a group that includes quarterback Malik Willis and the two players Jeff Hafley cleared on Friday, rookie receiver Caleb Douglas and running back Jaylen Wright.

Taylor out, Beal doubtful

Taylor did not practice at any point this week because of a quadriceps injury, so Miami’s secondary loses one of its slot options. Beal is doubtful with a hamstring injury after three limited sessions, and Hafley had already said he did not expect him to play. Gay was kept out of Thursday’s practice by an illness, returned on Friday and goes into the weekend as a game-time decision.

Willis, who was listed with a sore right thumb, practiced fully throughout and starts. Linebackers Jordyn Brooks (foot) and Jackson Woodard (ankle), cornerback Julius Brents (heel), guard Jonah Savaiinaea (ankle), tight end Will Kacmarek (hamstring) and long snapper Tucker Addington (shoulder) are all available.

Louis back, a second kicker on hand

On Saturday the Dolphins activated rookie safety Kyle Louis from injured reserve. The fourth-round pick made his NFL debut in the opener at Las Vegas before a knee injury sent him to the list, and Hafley had held off on a decision until he saw how Louis finished the week. Miami also elevated kicker Zane Gonzalez, a seventh-year veteran who has made 81 percent of his career field goals, and edge rusher Max Lewellyn from the practice squad for the game. The club gave no injury reason for adding a kicker.

The opponent arrives with its own holes. The 2-4 Jets have ruled out linebacker Francisco Mauigoa, edge rusher Joseph Ossai and offensive lineman Max Mitchell, and running back Breece Hall is questionable with a quadriceps injury.

Miami’s last outing was a 31-24 home loss to Cincinnati on October 11, when it ran for 217 yards but threw two interceptions, so a healthy backfield with Wright back matters for an offense built on the ground game.

What comes next

The Dolphins and Jets kick off at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, October 25; follow it in the Dolphins-Jets Game Center. Miami then hosts the New England Patriots on Sunday, November 1, at 4:25 p.m. EST. Every club’s final designations are on the injury page.

The why matters.
