Cleveland's starting running back failed to win a spot after a pregame test of his ankle, leaving Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime to carry the load against a Baltimore team again without Lamar Jackson.

Quinshon Judkins will not play for the Cleveland Browns against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The starting running back was listed among the club’s inactives at 11:30 a.m. EDT, about an hour after he tested his injured ankle in a pregame workout at Huntington Bank Field.

Second-year defensive tackle Mason Graham is also out, while linebacker Carson Schwesinger, the third of Cleveland’s key questionable players, is active. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Judkins’ workout did not convince the Browns

Judkins hurt the ankle in the 17-12 loss to the New York Jets in Week 5 and left MetLife Stadium in a walking boot. He sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday, returned on a limited basis Friday and carried a questionable tag into the weekend. Before the game he ran through a session with running backs coach Duce Staley while general manager Andrew Berry watched. Mary Kay Cabot reported that he appeared to feel discomfort when stopping and starting, and the decision followed shortly after.

Cleveland did not elevate a running back from its practice squad on Saturday, so the backfield is down to Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime, the veteran signed off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad early this week as cover for Judkins. Dylan Sampson (knee) was ruled out on Friday, and Raheim Sanders is on injured reserve.

A thinner interior on defense

Graham sprained his MCL and an ankle against the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 1 and also missed the Jets game. He returned to practice on a limited basis Friday but will sit again. Fellow defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. (ankle) is inactive as well, which leaves Cleveland short in the middle against Derrick Henry and the Baltimore run game.

The rest of the Browns’ list: third quarterback Taylen Green, cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, center Parker Brailsford and guard Teven Jenkins, who misses his sixth straight game with a back injury. Defensive end Derek Barnett, questionable with an ankle injury, is not on the list. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel (back) and defensive tackle Kalia Davis (quadriceps) had already been ruled out.

Baltimore without Lamar Jackson again

The Ravens are missing their quarterback as well. Lamar Jackson (ankle) is inactive, so Tyler Huntley makes a second straight start. Center Cam Jurgens (concussion), defensive tackle Broderick Washington (ankle) and tight end Matt Hibner (hand) are also out for Baltimore.

What comes next

The 3-2 Browns and 4-1 Ravens meet at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Cleveland plays at the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. EDT, and the first practice report of that week, on Wednesday, will show where Judkins and Graham stand. Live updates are in the Game Center, with every club’s list on the WhyNFL injury page and more on the Browns team page.
