The Baltimore Ravens will play a second straight game without Lamar Jackson on Sunday, October 18, at Cleveland, and on Saturday they gave Tyler Huntley a new target by activating rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane from injured reserve.
Coach Jesse Minter ruled Jackson out on Friday because of the ankle injury the two-time MVP suffered shortly before halftime of the 24-18 home win over the Tennessee Titans on October 4. Minter had called Jackson day to day earlier in the week, but the quarterback did not get back on the practice field in time. Huntley, 28, makes his second consecutive start.
The club announced Lane’s return on Saturday afternoon. Linebacker Carl Jones earned a promotion to the active roster, and Baltimore elevated tackle Chuma Edoga and guard Kyle Hergel for the game. Adam Schefter reported that Lane is expected to play.
We have activated WR Ja’Kobi Lane from Injured Reserve and signed LB Carl Jones from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
We have also activated T Chuma Edoga and G Kyle Hergel as standard practice squad elevations for tomorrow’s game.

More holes up front and at tight end
Jackson is not the only regular missing. Center Cam Jurgens, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade last week, is out with a concussion, so rookie Vega Ioane stays at center rather than moving back to his usual guard spot. Tight end Matthew Hibner is also out with a hand injury, leaving the position thin with Durham Smythe already lost to a torn Achilles.
What Huntley did last week
Huntley kept Baltimore’s season moving in Atlanta. Trailing 23-15 late, he hit Devontez Walker for a 7-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left, and Derrick Henry ran in the two-point conversion to tie it. In overtime Huntley scored on a 1-yard run for a 30-23 win. He finished 24 of 32 for 201 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, and added 20 yards on six carries.
That win lifted the Ravens to 4-1, first in the AFC North. The Browns are 3-2 after losing 17-12 to the New York Jets last week.
What comes next
Baltimore plays at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EDT; follow it in the Ravens-Browns Game Center. The Ravens host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 25, and Jackson’s status for that game is not yet known. The latest designations are on the injury report.
