Wednesday was one of the busiest roster days of the young season. Clubs around the league opened injured-reserve return windows, reshuffled practice squads and pushed a handful of players onto 53-man rosters ahead of Week 6, including Thursday night’s Seahawks-Broncos game in Denver.

No new league transactions had posted for Thursday, October 15, as of early morning in the Eastern time zone. This roundup gathers the Wednesday, October 14 moves in one place — designated-to-return openings, active-roster adds, practice-squad churn, waivers and one suspension filing.

Return windows and reinstatements

Several teams started 21-day clocks. The Houston Texans reinstated right tackle Braden Smith from injured reserve and opened return windows for linebacker Henry To’oTo’o and cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram, with both back at practice as Houston prepared for London. The Browns opened Dylan Sampson’s window a day after placing Raheim Sanders on injured reserve. Green Bay did the same for defensive tackle Jordon Riley, and Las Vegas for tight end Carter Runyon.

New England opened windows for receiver A.J. Brown and offensive tackle Marcus Bryant. Philadelphia started clocks for guard Landon Dickerson, defensive back Jakorian Bennett and tight ends Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers. Arizona designated safety Kitan Crawford; Baltimore did the same for receiver Ja’Kobi Lane; the Jets for receiver Omar Cooper Jr.; and New Orleans for long snapper Zach Woods.

Active-roster adds

The Cardinals promoted tight end Shawn Bowman from the practice squad. The Rams signed kicker Blake Grupe to the active roster. Seattle moved running back Velus Jones Jr. onto the 53-man roster, then released receiver Irv Charles and signed Charles to the practice squad — a typical vested-veteran paperwork loop that also refreshes practice-squad eligibility.

Practice-squad traffic

Practice-squad additions spanned the league: Vershon Lee in Cleveland; Chris Moore in Baltimore; Anthony Kendall back in Buffalo; Mark Gronowski and Bryce Oliver in Houston; Garrett Nelson with the Rams; Jarquez Hunter and Kevin Austin Jr. in New Orleans; Josh Gesky with the Giants; Troy Reeder, Quinton Bell and Jamaal Pritchett with the Jets; Dean Clark in Philadelphia; Jake Browning with the Chargers; and Jerome Ford, Shedrick Jackson and Riley Wilson in Arizona.

Clubs also cleared space. Cleveland released Myles Bryant from the practice squad. The Giants parted with C.J. Ravenell. Arizona cut Eugene Asante and Jay Toia. The Rams released Jamie Sheriff and placed cornerback Damarion Williams on the practice-squad reserved/exception list. The Chargers moved tight end Evan Svoboda to the practice-squad injured list.

Waivers and a suspension filing

Waiver terminations on Wednesday included Chris Braswell (Houston), Harrison Mevis (Rams), Ryan Miller (Miami), and Jayden Price and Brock Rechsteiner (New Orleans), along with Anthony Kendall’s waiver termination in Buffalo before Buffalo brought him back to the practice squad. The Rams also placed left tackle Alaric Jackson on the reserve/suspended list after the league’s on-field discipline case.

What to watch next

Thursday’s practice-squad elevations for Seattle at Denver usually post in the late afternoon Eastern window. Houston’s To’oTo’o and Ingram clocks run through early November. Several other return windows opened Wednesday will shape Week 6 and Week 7 active rosters as clubs decide who to activate before the 21-day limits expire.
