The Browns corner said he is studying both Ravens quarterbacks, tracking Zay Flowers inside and outside, and wrapping low on Derrick Henry after feeling Cleveland let one get away in New York.

Denzel Ward is not waiting on a final word about Lamar Jackson. With Cleveland preparing for Baltimore and uncertainty around who starts under center, the Browns corner said the tape work covers both Jackson and Tyler Huntley the same week.

“Definitely still just got to keep an eye on, watch some of the tape on what he likes to do,” Ward said of Jackson. “He’s their guy, but still check the tape out on both of those guys. They’re both really good quarterbacks, and I’m just preparing for both.” On Huntley specifically: “He’s a good quarterback as well. There’s a few different things than Lamar sometimes, but they still got the same system pretty much.”

Flowers everywhere, Henry low

Ward sized up Zay Flowers’ movement across the formation as a communication problem the secondary has to solve every snap. “He’s one of their go-to guys,” Ward said. “We definitely gotta keep an eye on where he’s at on the field, whether he’s inside in the slot or outside, and try to do as good a job as we can eliminating him and taking him away.” Flowers, he added, arrived already twitchy after the catch and has “grown each year.”

Against Derrick Henry, Ward kept the tackle plan blunt. “He’s a good running back. For guys like us, just run, take your shot, go low and make a play. No differently than other running backs — just gotta wrap up and tackle and go low on him.” He said Cleveland’s corners like being physical in the run game and will need that this week.

Jets tape, then first-place stakes

Ward did not soft-pedal the Week 5 loss in New York. “Definitely feel we let one get away,” he said. “That’s the NFL, and we look past it and we’re onto this next week. The goal is to get this win this week.” Asked about still sitting near the top of the division, he nodded at the standings fight. “We’re still up there. So we’re competing and we’re in the mix.”

Cleveland hosts Baltimore looking to turn that Jets regret into a home win against a Ravens offense Ward is preparing to face with either quarterback.
