Tyrice Knight will start at weakside linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night at Denver after Drake Thomas was ruled out with an ankle injury. Mike Macdonald confirmed the move in Wednesday’s press conference, saying Knight will step in opposite Ernest Jones IV and that the defensive standard stays the same.
Thomas injured the ankle in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, returned to finish that game, then sat out all three practice reports on the short week. Brady Henderson reported Macdonald’s confidence in Knight, a 2024 fourth-round pick who made nine starts as a rookie and four last season.
“We’re confident he’ll play great and the standard stays the same on defense,” Macdonald said of Knight. “I know he’s excited for the opportunity and we’re excited to see him play.” Backup linebacker Chazz Surratt is also out with a calf injury.
Seattle (3-2) visits Denver (3-2) at Empower Field at Mile High on Thursday, October 15, at 8:15 p.m. EDT on Prime Video. The Broncos will be without cornerback Pat Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga, both listed out with ankle injuries.
