Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tanner Hudson tore a pectoral muscle in Sunday’s 31-24 win over the Miami Dolphins and is expected to miss the rest of the 2026 season, his agent told Charlie Clifford on Tuesday. Ben Baby also reported that Hudson is expected to miss the remainder of the year.

The club had not announced an injured reserve move as of Wednesday. Its last transaction was the Monday claim of linebacker Jack Kiser, made when Swayze Bozeman went to injured reserve.

Hurt on his best drive of the season

Hudson caught three passes for 14 yards and his first touchdown of the season in Miami. His two catches on the final drive of the first half put Cincinnati ahead 21-7, Geoff Hobson reported. Head coach Zac Taylor said Monday the club was still gathering information on the injury.

Hudson, 31, finishes the season with seven catches for 33 yards. In four seasons in Cincinnati he has 84 catches for 707 yards and five touchdowns. He started this season on the practice squad, was elevated for games, and was signed to the active roster on September 29. He was also a regular on special teams.

Who replaces him

Mike Gesicki remains Joe Burrow’s top tight end, with Drew Sample and Erick All Jr. behind him. Hobson expects the club to look first at an internal option in seventh-round pick Jack Endries, who has played two games with one offensive snap and 19 on special teams.

The Bengals are on their Week 6 bye. Taylor said the timing helps a team that has played three straight games decided at the end. They return to work Monday to prepare for a 1 p.m. game at the Baltimore Ravens on October 25.

The why matters.
