Gordon McGuinness released his first 2027 NFL mock draft on Wednesday, and for all the talk about a loaded quarterback class, none go first overall. Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith goes No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans, and five quarterbacks come off the board in the first round.
The most surprising landing spot is in Tampa Bay. McGuinness sends Oregon quarterback Dante Moore to the Buccaneers at No. 5, even though Baker Mayfield signed a three-year extension before the season that keeps him under contract through 2029.
The top 10
- Tennessee Titans: Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State
- Los Angeles Chargers: Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame
- Miami Dolphins: Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
- Houston Texans: Trevor Goosby, OT, Texas
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dante Moore, QB, Oregon
- Arizona Cardinals: Colin Simmons, EDGE, Texas
- New Orleans Saints: Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana
- Washington Commanders: Cam Coleman, WR, Texas
- New York Jets (from Dallas): CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame
- Philadelphia Eagles: Dylan Stewart, EDGE, South Carolina
Mestemaker is QB1 at No. 3
Miami takes Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker third, making him the first quarterback off the board. In his first season after transferring from North Texas, he has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 1,575 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions, and has added two rushing scores.
Moore is the second quarterback taken. He has completed 69.7 percent of his passes for 926 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions, but has played in only four games and has not returned since a concussion. Moore ranks third on the big board behind the mock, with a 4.0 percent big-time throw rate and a 1.8 percent turnover-worthy play rate before the injury.
Tampa Bay won its first game of the season, 24-16 over Dallas, in Week 5, so more wins could push the Buccaneers well down the order before April.
Three Jets picks in the top 12
New York has three of the first 12 selections in the mock. The Jets take Notre Dame’s CJ Carr at No. 9 with Dallas’ pick, then add Ole Miss defensive lineman Will Echoles at 11 with Indianapolis’ pick and Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson IV at 12 with their own.
Carr has completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 1,378 yards, 16 touchdowns and one interception through six games.
The other quarterbacks
Missouri’s Austin Simmons goes 13th to the Cleveland Browns with the Rams’ pick, and Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss goes 16th to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Texas’ Arch Manning, who was second on that same big board earlier this month, is not one of the five first-round quarterbacks.
Late first round
The 5-0 San Francisco 49ers close the round at No. 32 with Iowa tackle Trevor Lauck. The Kansas City Chiefs take Missouri lineman Cayden Green at 31 and the Minnesota Vikings take Notre Dame linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at 30.
The 2027 NFL Draft runs April 29 through May 1 in Washington, D.C.
