Arizona designated the safety for return after an ankle injury in the opener, filled a 53-man spot with Bowman, and reshuffled the practice squad with Jerome Ford among the adds.

The Arizona Cardinals opened the 21-day practice window for safety Kitan Crawford to return from injured reserve on Wednesday and promoted tight end Shawn Bowman from the practice squad to the active roster, the club announced.

Crawford, a 2025 seventh-round pick, hurt his ankle in the season opener and has been on IR since. Designating him for return lets him practice now; Arizona must activate him within 21 days or he reverts to IR. With a roster spot still open after Bowman’s promotion, the Cardinals could activate him as soon as this weekend’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, azcardinals.com’s Darren Urban noted.

Bowman to the 53

Bowman had been on the practice squad and had previously spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has not appeared in a regular-season game. Josh Alper reported the promotion alongside Crawford’s designation.

Practice-squad shuffle

Arizona also signed running back Jerome Ford, wide receiver Shedrick Jackson and cornerback Riley Wilson to the practice squad, and released linebacker Eugene Asante and defensive lineman Jay Toia from the practice squad, according to the club’s transactions board.

Crawford had three tackles before his injury and posted 20 tackles in 15 appearances as a rookie. Special teams and safety depth are the near-term upside if he clears the return window before the Rams visit.

The why matters.
