Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has a realistic chance to return for Sunday’s game at Cleveland, Adam Schefter reported Wednesday, citing a league source.
Jackson has not played since spraining his left ankle on the final offensive snap of the first half against the Tennessee Titans on October 4. He missed every practice last week and was ruled out for Sunday night’s overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons, when Tyler Huntley started and delivered the tying and winning scores.
On Monday, head coach Jesse Minter said Jackson was “definitely doing better” and that Baltimore expected a clearer read by midweek, without promising Wednesday practice. Jackson was again away from the open portion of Wednesday’s session, but Schefter’s report remains the strongest public signal that Week 6 at the Browns is still live for the two-time MVP.
Minter later confirmed that Jackson did not practice Wednesday and called him day to day. Jackson did not practice at all last week before he was ruled out on Friday, so Thursday’s report is the next checkpoint.
Practice still decides it
Nothing is official until the Ravens post their full midweek designations. Jackson did not take part in a single session during Week 5, and his participation through Friday will show how the ankle is responding. If he cannot go, Huntley is again in line to start for a 4-1 team sitting alone atop the AFC North.
Other pieces returning around him
Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday that rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane is expected to return to practice four weeks after wrist surgery and has a shot to play this weekend, per Minter. Center Cam Jurgens, acquired last week from Philadelphia, was described Monday as nearing the end of the concussion protocol.
What comes next
The Ravens visit the Browns on Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Jackson’s practice status and game designation will be updated on the injury report as the week unfolds.
