The Buffalo Bills released veteran edge rusher Mike Danna on Monday, October 12, five months after signing him, and reshaped their game-day roster for that night’s 8:15 p.m. EDT kickoff against the Los Angeles Rams, where receiver DJ Moore is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.
The club announced that cornerback Anthony Kendall moves up from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in Danna’s place. Buffalo also brought up two practice squad players for the night, receiver Trent Sherfield and defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis, according to Aaron Wilson. Adam Schefter tied the Sherfield promotion directly to the uncertainty around Moore.
We have made the following roster moves:

– Released OLB Mike Danna pic.twitter.com/eYSk1aAKOE— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) October 12, 2026
The team gave no reason for letting Danna go. He arrived on a one-year contract in May, about three months after the Kansas City Chiefs released him in a move that cleared close to $9 million in cap space.
Why the Bills need receivers tonight
Moore aggravated an earlier injury to his left shoulder before halftime of Buffalo’s 29-26 home defeat by the New England Patriots on October 4. He missed the first two practices of the week, was limited on Saturday and drew a questionable tag on the final injury report. Coach Joe Brady said on Thursday that Moore would do everything he could to be ready.
Buffalo is already without receiver Joshua Palmer, who was ruled out with a shoulder injury, so Sherfield gives the offense an extra body behind Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, with tight end Dalton Kincaid also in line for more targets if Moore cannot go. On defense, the Bills will play without tackle Ed Oliver, who has a knee injury, and two more regulars carry questionable tags: Dee Alford at cornerback with an ankle problem and Landon Jackson on the defensive line with a sore knee.
With WR D.J. Moore listed as questionable for tonight’s game against the Rams, the Bills elevated WR Trent Sherfield from their practice squad.

Danna’s career so far
Kansas City drafted Danna in the fifth round in 2020, 177th overall, after he finished his college career at Michigan following three seasons at Central Michigan. He spent six seasons with the Chiefs, and won two Super Bowls there. He has 21.5 career sacks. He is now free to sign with any team.
