Updated October 12, 2:42 p.m. EDT: Todd Monken called Carson Schwesinger and Quinshon Judkins day to day.

The Cleveland Browns could have both linebacker Carson Schwesinger and running back Quinshon Judkins for Sunday’s division game against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Todd Monken said Monday, describing each of them as day to day with ankle injuries from the 17-12 loss to the New York Jets.

Both players left MetLife Stadium in walking boots, which made Monken’s update a relief for Cleveland. He said each has a chance to play this week, though neither has been cleared, and the team’s first practice report on Wednesday will be the first official word on how much work they can handle.

Schwesinger’s injury is a Grade 1 ankle sprain, the mildest form, Ian Rapoport reported earlier Monday. Rapoport added that the linebacker was already hurt when he made one of Cleveland’s biggest defensive plays of the afternoon, a strip sack of Geno Smith, and that he tried to keep playing on the ankle at one stage.

Two key pieces of the lineup

Even on a sore ankle, Schwesinger was one of the busiest players on the field in New Jersey. He finished with eight tackles, five of them solo, along with a sack, a tackle for loss, a pass defensed and a quarterback hit. Through five games he has 43 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Cleveland drafted him at No. 33 overall in 2025, and he has been an every-down presence in the middle of the defense since.

Judkins, the lead back, has had a harder time this season. Against New York he managed 44 yards on 14 attempts, the longest going for 14, and caught three passes for 6 yards. Through five games he has 221 rushing yards and one touchdown on 73 carries, about three yards per attempt. If he cannot go, Raheim Sanders, who had three carries for 12 yards on Sunday, is the likeliest option on early downs, with Jaleel McLaughlin also available.

The offense needs every healthy body. Deshaun Watson was sacked eight times on Sunday, and Cleveland’s only touchdown came on a 29-yard pass to Denzel Boston that put the Browns ahead 12-10 with 6:15 left. Braelon Allen answered with a 22-yard touchdown run three minutes later. The loss dropped Cleveland to 3-2. The full box score is in the Game Center, and the latest designations across the league are on our injury page.

What comes next

The Browns host the Ravens on Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Baltimore arrives at 4-1 after its overtime win in Atlanta and may also get Lamar Jackson back, which would make a healthy Schwesinger even more important for Cleveland. Practice participation on Wednesday and Thursday will be the clearest early signal for both players.

The why matters.
