Rookie gets new home after Achane injury

The Miami Dolphins claimed running back Kaytron Allen off waivers from the Washington Commanders, one day after Washington released its sixth-round pick, the team announced.

Miami is looking to reinforce its backfield after starter De’Von Achane was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Allen, a Norfolk, Virginia native, rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries in four games for the Commanders and made the 53-man roster out of training camp.

Familiar opponent

Allen’s most productive preseason performance came against Miami in August, when he ran for 85 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. The winless Dolphins host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday; it is not yet clear whether Allen will be active for the game.

The why matters.
