Minnesota won the decisive moments near its own goal line

The Vikings beat the Bears 9-3 on September 20, 2026 without scoring a touchdown. In a rain-soaked game at Soldier Field, the difference was Minnesota’s ability to protect a narrow lead when Chicago threatened. Will Reichard made all three of his field goals, and the Vikings left Week 2 at 2-0 with a division win. Chicago fell to 1-1.

Rodgers stopped two scoring opportunities

Chicago opened the second half with a drive to the Minnesota 1. Jalen Redmond forced D’Andre Swift to fumble on first-and-goal, and Isaiah Rodgers recovered. A drive that could have put the Bears ahead instead produced no points.

Rodgers intervened again in the fourth quarter, blocking Cairo Santos’ 23-yard field-goal attempt and preserving Minnesota’s 6-3 advantage. Caleb Williams had left that drive with a hamstring injury during the game, bringing in Tyson Bagent. The blocked kick made Chicago’s failure to finish near the goal line even more costly.

The Vikings used the clock before the final stop

Minnesota followed the block with an 11-play, 67-yard drive that consumed 5:12. Carson Wentz found Jordan Addison for a 15-yard third-down conversion and T.J. Hockenson for another 19 yards. Aaron Jones supplied a 15-yard run before Reichard’s 39-yard kick extended the lead to 9-3 with 1:09 remaining.

Bagent still moved Chicago to the Minnesota 12. On fourth-and-2 with one second left, Dallas Turner sacked him to end the game. Turner finished with two sacks, ensuring that the Bears’ final red-zone visit also ended without points.

Ball security made modest offense sufficient

Jones carried 23 times for 105 yards, giving Minnesota a dependable way to advance in difficult conditions. Wentz passed for 143 yards without an interception, and the Vikings lost no turnovers. Chicago gained more total yards, 297 to 246, but its two giveaways and three empty red-zone trips prevented that advantage from reaching the scoreboard. Reichard’s earlier kicks from 35 and 49 yards were enough to establish a lead that Minnesota’s defense and special teams could preserve.
