Reading this profile
The details below are dated roster facts. Roster status, practice participation, and game-day availability are different; this profile does not turn one into another.
Penn State versatility and an immediate NFL role
Barkley’s college résumé included the 2017 Paul Hornung Award, which recognizes college football’s most versatile player. One example came at Iowa on September 23, 2017: his school-record 358 all-purpose yards combined 211 rushing yards, 94 receiving yards and 53 kickoff-return yards. That breakdown shows how many different ways Penn State put the ball in his hands.
The New York Giants selected him second overall on April 26, 2018. He immediately combined a substantial rushing workload with frequent receiving involvement: 1,307 rushing yards, 91 catches for 721 yards and 15 total touchdowns in his rookie regular season. His 2,028 yards from scrimmage led the NFL, and he received the Offensive Rookie of the Year award on February 2, 2019.
A new peak in Philadelphia
Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 13, 2024. In his first regular season with the team, he led the league with 2,005 rushing yards and became the ninth NFL player to reach 2,000 in a season. He also scored 15 touchdowns across rushing and receiving. On February 6, 2025, he became the first Eagle to win the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
His 255-yard rushing performance against the Rams was a central part of that season. Touchdown runs of 70 and 72 yards helped him set Philadelphia’s single-game rushing record in a 37–20 win. With 47 receiving yards added, his 302 yards from scrimmage also established an Eagles single-game record.
A championship finish beyond the regular season
Barkley finished Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX championship run with 2,504 rushing yards when the regular season and playoffs are combined, setting an NFL record for that full-season measure. The two headline numbers describe different scopes: 2,005 is his 2024 regular-season rushing total, while 2,504 includes the postseason. Keeping them separate makes both the rushing title and the scale of his championship campaign easier to understand.

Saquon Barkley welcomes LeBron James to the city and offers to tee it up, posts 1 of 1, loves an unnamed impact, tags Scott Wu, and calls Olivia Dean one of the best voices he has seen live.
He says he loves it, never change, and that he knows firsthand the kind of impact he has as a man and how he brings greatness out of you, without naming who.
Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo say Philadelphia has no plans to break up the roster before the November 10 deadline, even after falling to 2-3 in London.
Three Philadelphia players were ruled out and a starting guard left hurt during the 19-17 loss to Jacksonville, deepening an injury list that already held Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith.
