Patriots beat Steelers 24–17 in the AFC Championship Game

The New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24–17 on the road at Heinz Field in the AFC Championship Game of the 2001 playoffs on January 27, 2002. It was a one-score game at the finish, decided by 7 points.

The Patriots went 11–5 in the regular season and the Steelers went 13–3. The Patriots had already beaten the Oakland Raiders in the Divisional round. The Patriots went on to win Super Bowl XXXVI, beating the St. Louis Rams 20–17. The loss ended the Steelers’ season.
