Giants win Super Bowl XLII, 17–14 over the New England Patriots

The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 17–14 at University of Phoenix Stadium, a neutral site, in Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008. It was decided by 3 points, a field goal or less.

The Giants went 10–6 in the regular season and the Patriots went 16–0. The Giants had already beaten the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional round, and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Counting from the 1999 season, it was the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. The loss ended the Patriots’ season. The Patriots’ 14 points were their fewest in any game of 2007.

In their previous meeting, the New England Patriots won 38–35 on December 29, 2007. When they met again, the New York Giants won 24–20 on November 6, 2011.
