Game story

Deshaun Watson's two-point pass completes Cleveland's late comeback

Deshaun Watson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Harold Fannin Jr. with 1:48 left and a two-point pass to Denzel Boston, and the Cleveland Browns beat the Carolina Panthers 21–18 at home.

Carolina's kicker nearly won it alone. Ryan Fitzgerald made four field goals, from 35, 41, 53 and 37 yards, turning a 10–0 deficit into a 12–10 lead. After Andre Szmyt put Cleveland back in front, Bryce Young's 8-yard touchdown pass to John Metchie III gave the Panthers an 18–13 lead with 4:25 left.

Watson answered with the winning drive. Fannin caught both of Cleveland's touchdowns and finished with seven receptions. Watson completed 16 of 30 passes for 144 yards, and Mason Graham sacked Young twice.

Young threw 48 passes, completing 26 for 291 yards, and Chuba Hubbard ran for 82 yards. Cleveland (2–1) hosts Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Carolina (1–2) hosts Detroit on Sunday night.

Week 3 recap: Fannin’s second touchdown settles a four-lead-change finish

The Cleveland Browns beat the Carolina Panthers 21–18 at Huntington Bank Field on September 27, 2026. A game that began with a scoreless first quarter ended with four fourth-quarter lead changes, the last produced by Deshaun Watson’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Harold Fannin Jr. with 1:48 remaining.

Cleveland finds its answer late

Ryan Fitzgerald’s fourth field goal put Carolina ahead 12–10 early in the fourth quarter. Andre Szmyt restored Cleveland’s lead, but Bryce Young then found John Metchie III for an eight-yard touchdown. The Browns stopped Chuba Hubbard’s two-point attempt, keeping their deficit at five.

Cleveland’s response covered 65 yards in eight plays. A roughing-the-passer penalty moved the ball to Carolina’s 14 before Watson found Fannin for the winning score. Watson then completed the two-point conversion to Denzel Boston, turning a one-point lead into a three-point advantage. Ronnie Hickman’s interception on Carolina’s final possession ended the remaining threat.

Pressure made Carolina’s yards less valuable

The Panthers outgained Cleveland 360–259, but the Browns repeatedly kept those gains from becoming touchdowns. Mason Graham sacked Young on a second-quarter fourth down, and Isaiah McGuire’s sack near the goal line later helped force a field goal. Carolina finished with four Fitzgerald field goals and one touchdown.

Fannin supplied both Cleveland touchdowns and led the Browns with seven receptions for 51 yards. Watson threw for 144 yards and two scores without an interception. Young finished with 291 passing yards, but Cleveland’s three sacks and late takeaway mattered more than the difference in passing volume.

What the result meant after Week 3

The Browns improved to 2–1 with their second consecutive victory, while the Panthers dropped to 1–2. Cleveland won by finishing its last touchdown drive and then preventing a reply, despite spending much of the afternoon behind Carolina in total offense.
