Game preview

Preview updated October 2, 2026, with Friday game-status reports. This is a pregame guide, not a report of the result. Questionable designations are not confirmation that a player will dress.

Cowboys at Texans: when and where to watch

The Dallas Cowboys visit the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is noon CDT locally, which is 1 p.m. EDT and 10 a.m. PDT.

FOX carries the game in selected U.S. markets, including FOX-26 in Houston. Check the local station’s listing before making viewing plans: an afternoon FOX assignment does not mean every FOX affiliate carries this matchup. Houston’s listed radio outlet is 95.7 The Fan.

Which players are out or questionable?

The Friday game-status report rules out Dallas cornerback Cobie Durant and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, both with hamstring injuries. Malik Hooker, James Houston and Shavon Revel Jr. finished Friday as full participants without a game designation.

Houston ruled out linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (groin) and safety M.J. Stewart (knee). Jadeveon Clowney (knee), Logan Hall (knee), Jake Hansen (calf) and Ed Ingram (groin) are questionable. Nico Collins and Will Anderson Jr. practiced fully Friday and have no game designation. Their earlier practice limitations should not be presented as a final absence.

These are this week’s final injury designations, not a complete list of players on injured reserve. Sunday’s inactive list still determines which eligible players dress.

Why this matchup matters beyond the Texas rivalry

Dallas enters 1–2 after a three-point loss to Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro. Houston is 0–3 after losing at Indianapolis. That makes the immediate stakes straightforward: the Cowboys can return to .500, while the Texans are trying to avoid opening the season with four defeats.

Dak Prescott gives Dallas an established passing focal point. Houston must account for both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens outside while managing an injury report that removes Al-Shaair from the middle of its defense. Clowney and Hall’s unresolved status also matters to the depth available around the pass rush.

What to watch once play begins

Matchup analysis: Watch whether Houston can make Dallas work through sustained possessions rather than quick outside completions. On the other side, Collins’ lack of a game designation gives Houston a different receiving outlook from a scenario in which he is unavailable. How consistently C.J. Stroud finds him, and whether Houston can keep its drives on schedule, will tell more than the rivalry label alone.

Do not treat Friday’s report as a prediction of snap counts. The game center’s live score and statistical panels can be followed separately once the game starts.
