The Los Angeles Chargers designated wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith for return from injured reserve on Tuesday and signed wide receiver Luke Grimm to the practice squad, according to league transaction reports.
Lambert-Smith’s 21-day window
Lambert-Smith had been on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Designating him for return opens a 21-day practice window in which the Chargers must activate him to the 53-man roster or keep him on the list. He caught 5 of 12 targets for 51 yards and one touchdown as a rookie in 2025.
The timing is notable after Ladd McConkey (foot), Quentin Johnston (chest) and Brenen Thompson (quadriceps) all sat out Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos, while Tre’ Harris exited early with a hamstring issue. If Lambert-Smith posts full practices this week, he could be a candidate for activation before Sunday’s game at Kansas City.
Grimm returns to the practice squad
Grimm, 25, signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas after the 2025 draft and spent time on and off the practice squad that season. The club waived him with an injury settlement in mid-August. Mike Garafolo reported the re-signing Tuesday.
At Kansas, Grimm had 177 receptions for 2,472 yards and 23 touchdowns. With the Chargers’ receiver room thinned by injuries, he is available as practice depth and a potential elevation candidate. WhyNFL will watch whether Lambert-Smith is activated before the Chiefs trip.
