Saints beat Vikings 31–28 in the NFC Championship Game

The New Orleans Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings 31–28 at home at Louisiana Superdome in overtime in the NFC Championship Game of the 2009 playoffs on January 24, 2010. It was decided by 3 points, a field goal or less.

It was one of two games of the 2009 playoffs to need overtime.

The Vikings went 12–4 in the regular season and the Saints went 13–3. The Saints had already beaten the Arizona Cardinals in the Divisional round. The Saints went on to win Super Bowl XLIV, beating the Indianapolis Colts 31–17. The loss ended the Vikings’ season.

In their previous meeting, the Minnesota Vikings won 30–27 on October 6, 2008. When they met again, the New Orleans Saints won 14–9 on September 9, 2010.
