The Vikings went 12–4 in the regular season and the Saints went 13–3. The Saints had already beaten the Arizona Cardinals in the Divisional round. The Saints went on to win Super Bowl XLIV, beating the Indianapolis Colts 31–17. The loss ended the Vikings’ season.
In their previous meeting, the Minnesota Vikings won 30–27 on October 6, 2008. When they met again, the New Orleans Saints won 14–9 on September 9, 2010.
